Normally I find new people to interview for the column just by bouncing around from link to link. Some how, I eventually ran into Patrick's site. A lot of the time I end up re-discovering old sites all over again. Some times, years later. Anyway, I can't remember where I recognised Patrick from, but here's our interview, and a few new drawings he's been making. BLA-DOW!

SHRN:So, tell me then. Were you on the fecal before? Or where am I recognising you from? Skateboarding maybe?

PJ:As for fecal face, I've posted stuff on the forums and in the user galleries section. I have also done some work for Consolidated Skateboards.

SHRN:I just know I've heard your name before, and I know I saw your site before, but am wondering how I got there.

PJ:Your guess is as good as mine.

SHRN:Anyway, tell me about yourself. age/where abouts/stats(?)/etc.

PJ:I am 21 years old, and currently live in Louisville, Kentucky.

SHRN:Hobbies/interests?

PJ:Skateboarding, super8mm filming, taking pictures, independent film and documentaries. Lots of movies. There is a drive-in movie theatre over in Indiana that is going to be playing three horror movies this Friday (the 13th). It is going to be the best night of my life!

SHRN:I find myself being drawn to a lot independent film and documentaries too. I went and saw Palindromes, by Todd Solondz the other day. That falls into that independent catagory, I think. Was way good, I thought. What movies are you into, and why?

PJ:I'm into documentaries a lot because they show you that real life can often times be much more interesting than fiction. People usually think of documentaries as boring films they watched in grade school, but there are so many good documentaries that go un-noticed. I'll make a top 5 below. People should watch out for 'mockumentaries'. As you probably already know, those are fake documentaries - ones with actors. I'm obviously really bad at explaining things, but think of that Blair Witch movie. It's a bummer. You watch something totally thinking it's real and you find out everyone was an actor and it was all scripted? Lame.

1.)Dark Days (movie about homeless people who live in underground train tunnels in nyc.)

2.)Dancing Outlaw (crazy redneck guy's life as a mountain tap dancer. He has multiple personalities and one of them is Elvis.)

3.)Hands On A Hard Body (about the pickup truck competition in Texas where the last person to take their hand off the truck wins it. It lasts for days...)

4.)American Movie (amature horror filmer from Wisconsin's life and troubles trying to make it big)

5.)Eastern Exposure: Underachievers (this isnt a documentary exactly, but a skate video. Dan Wolfe rules. Go watch it and look back on the days when skateboarding still looked good. It just got re-released. You have no excuses!)

SHRN:Since we're listing documenteries, here's my contribution. Keep The River On Your Right. It's about this guy named Tobias Schneebaumm, now in his 80's, who once lived with tribes in Peru, who were not only completely bisexual, but also cannibals. Amazing story. I recommend it. Anyway, can you tell me more about what super8mm filming you've done? Or any filming for that matter.

PJ:I usually go out and try to film whatever I think looks interesting. I'll usually take the super8 camera with me when I go out and shoot photos and film that way. The most fun thing to film is skating, which I haven't done in a while because film is so expensive. Hopefully by the end of summer I'll have some of the footage I've been meaning to get - filming friends skating the park and some street skating as well. I'd like to make a video of it all and really get into the process of splicing and editing. We'll see...

SHRN:Describe what it's like for you to go out and take photos. How you go about it, etc.

PJ:A lot of the fun in shooting photos is finding different places to shoot. Abandoned and run-down places are the best because you get a chance to explore the place too. For whatever reason, I've always been drawn to places like that, and they usually make for good photos. So half of it is finding places I haven't shot 100 times already. I'll usually go with my sister or a friend too, because it's good to have company. Other than that, there really isn't any sort of process to it. Every time you go out it's a learning experience. I'm not so great at it, so I just go out and try to enjoy it, and have fun.

SHRN:Influences?

PJ:Todd Bratrud, Matt Dobson, Lindsey Jilbert (my sister), Isaac Mckay Randozzi, Matt Sharkey.

SHRN:Matt Sharkey? You a golf fan?

PJ:I'm not a golf fan at all. I was talking about my friend, Matt. I didn't think Matt Sharkey was such a popular name. mattsharkeyphotography.com. Shameless linkage. Check it though.

SHRN:No way dood. I love the linkage. What do you consider "so hot right now?"

PJ:The number 11 combo meal from Pizza Hut Express. Cheese personal pan pizza, breadsticks, and a large drink for under 5 bucks. Killer. I've had it nearly every day the past 2 weeks or so. Heart disease will be so hot next week.

SHRN:Day job?

PJ:I just got a fill-in job at a skateshop last week, but I am looking for another job as well. The skateshop job is awesome though. Most of the time I'll just watch skate videos with the kids. It's cool because I remember what it was like to be that age and totally obsessed with skating.

SHRN:Do you collect art?

PJ:I try to, but haven't had a place to settle down in, to hang it up. That'll probably start when I get my own place. When I do though, I want to fill the walls with all kinds of paintings and photography.

SHRN:Yeah, getting my own place was the best thing that ever happened to me. Just for fun, list all the things on your desk right now.

PJ:Bottle of ink, pen, and a sketchbook. That's it!

SHRN:1st crush experiance?

PJ:Wendy the neighborhood pool lifeguard. Indianapolis, Indiana. I was six years old. That's all I remember. She was 16, so she would be 31 years old now?
